  • Please note that since you have not provided a business trading address, the information you receive will be generic and the permits required might change depending on the trading address.

  • Based on your answers above, you may need to complete and submit the following permit application forms.

  • Application for a planning or building permit

    A planning or building permit might be required if you are changing the use of the land or proposing buildings or works. If you would like to know if you require a planning permit for your business, please opt in to be contacted by the Business Concierge Team at the end of this form. They will get in touch with you to discuss the specifics of your business.

    Some supporting documents you might need to supply with a planning or building permit application:

    • a recent copy of the title from the date of submission of the application - must be dated within 3 months
    • details of the current land use and proposed land use and details of any works (if any)
    • relevant plans for the proposal in A3 size
    • an assessment against the requirements of the Mitchell Planning Scheme, including zones, overlays and particular provisions
    • a car parking assessment against the requirements of the Mitchell Planning Scheme and/or justification for the reduction or waiving of the car parking requirement
    • detailed photographs of the subject site and surrounding properties
  • Application to register prescribed accomodation

    Prescribed accomodation and caravan parks must be registered with Council. Prescribed accommodation includes residential accommodation, hotels and motels, hostels, student dormitories, holiday camps and rooming houses. 

    Some supporting documents you might need to supply with this application:

    • a copy of your building plan to a scale of no less than 1:100, showing the proposed use of each room

  • Application to register a health business

    Council is responsible for maintaining public health and preventing disease, as required by the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, and the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009. We do this by registering local health and wellbeing businesses and making sure they manage the risk of infection.

  • Application to register a food business

     We classify every food business in the Shire. Classification is determined by the food safety risk of the premises.

    We work to help applicants understand what their food business will need to do to comply with the Food Act 1984 and gain registration.

    Food premises that meet the requirements of Class 1, 2, or 3 businesses must be registered with us, and that registration transferred when a business is sold. Class 4 food premises only needing to notify us prior to commencing trade.

    Some supporting documents you might need to supply with this application:

    • a current certificate from an approved food safety auditor stating that your Food Safety Program meets the requirements of the Food Act 1984
    • a copy of a non-standard or independent food safety program (if applicable)
    • the name and registered number of template of the Food Safety Program in use in your business, registered by the Secretary of the Department of Health.

  • Application for a roadside trading permit

    Roadside trading refers to vendors selling from a vehicle or stall on the side of the road, as opposed to from a shop or office environment. For example, coffee vans, ice cream vendors, etc.

    Some supporting documents you might need to supply with this application:

    • food van registration, if you will be selling food from a vehicle
    • statement of trade, if you will be selling food from a stall
    • proof of public liability insurance of a minimum of $10million.

  • Application for a permit to place an advertising sign (A-frame), goods on footpath, chair & tables on footpath and/or for a temporary banner

    A permit is required to display an advertising signboard on Council property, including footpaths and road reserves. This permit also allows you to apply to place goods stands and chairs and tables on footpaths under strict guidelines. These permits expire on 30 June each year and need to be renewed annually.

    Some supporting documents you might need to supply with this application:

    • sketch plan of preferred location of advertising sign, display of goods and/or chairs and tables
    • proof of public liability insurance of a minimum of $10million

  • Application to install/alter a domestic wastewater system

    Council inspects sites and approves permits for the installation or alteration of septic tank systems. If you are planning to install an on-site wastwater system (septic tank) on your property, you must apply to Council for a permit.

    Some supporting documents you might need to supply with this application:

    • a valid planning permit or exemption
    • a statement of authorisation from the property owners (if you're not the property owner)
    • a detailed floor plan of the building the septic tank is being installed or altered for
    • a site plan for the property accurately identifying the following:
      • location of the house, shed(s), pools driveway, drainage lines, underground power
      • location of proposed wastewater system and irrigation area
      • location of natural watercourses, dams, vegetation, trees
      • location of grease interceptor (GP), inspection chamber (IC), storm water drain (SD), septic tank (ST), distribution pits (DP), overflow relief gully (ORG)
      • fall fo the land and direction of north
    • a current copy of the title (including diagram)
    • a locality map, including details on how to locate and access the property

    If your site is in a prescribed water catchment area, a Land Capability Assessment and separate permit may be needed.

    If you're applying to alter a wastewater system, you will also need to provide:

    • a report from the licensed plumber detailing the following:
      • the position, type and condition of the present septic tank system
      • a copy of the most recent service report
      • that the existing septic tank can contain all the effluent from the proposed and existing buildings onsite in accordance with the EPA Code of Practice - Onsite Wasterwater Management Guidelines for Environmental Management and Australian Standards 1547.

  • Application to register a domestic animal business

    A domestic animal business trains, breeds, rears, or boards pets. Pet shops and animal shelters are also classified as domestic animal businesses.

    If you want to establish a new domestic animal business you will need to register it with Council. Registrations last 12 months and need to be renewed every year.
